Vacancy Project Manager ecology and nature legislation

What are you going to do

In this role, you'll combine your ecological knowledge with your skills as an advisor and project manager. Nature legislation provides an important framework, but ecological issues with a wider context will also be addressed.
In your role as project manager, you'll manage colleagues, maintain client contacts, and ensure that projects are completed within the established timeframe, financial framework, and quality requirements. You have an entrepreneurial, proactive, and client-focused attitude. You identify new market opportunities and know how to create and capitalize on them.
You'll lead (large) projects in the field of nature legislation/ecological guidance and monitoring and will be the lead partner in tendering processes. You'll be the point of contact for project developers, contractors, and municipalities, among others. You'll assess interventions for their impact on protected natural values and advice on measures to prevent and miniminze damage to nature. You'll also play a role in training junior colleagues in the field.

In terms of education and experience, we expect:
  • A completed university or university of applied sciences degree specializing in Ecology, Biology, or Forest and Nature Management.
  • At least five years of experience as a project manager resolving ecological issues and advising on nature conservation legislation.

  • Broad ecological knowledge necessary to interpret impacts on species and protected areas.
  • You can quickly and effectively understand complex issues related to nature legislation and translate them into clear and legally sound advice for our clients, both verbally and in writing.
  • You effortlessly combine your professional knowledge with your skills as a project manager and advisor. You have an eye for content, process, business, and social aspects. You know when and how to involve your colleagues or network in this process.
  • You naturally take your less experienced colleagues under your wing.
  • You take responsibility for the project budget and planning, and the quality of your advice, for granted.

Who we are

Waardenburg Ecology was founded at the time of the completion of the Delta Works. Over the past 45 years, we have grown into a comprehensive ecological research and consultancy firm with over 175 employees. We have offices in Culemborg, Haren (GN), and Nijmegen.

Our Haren office is staffed by an enthusiastic and friendly group of 24 people, currently divided into two teams: the Ecology, Macrofauna, and Fish Research team, and the Plankton and DNA team. This combination of ecological consultants and a specialized hydrobiological laboratory makes us unique.

Our Haren office is involved in, among other things::
  • Inventory and monitoring of a large number of species groups (including vascular plants, amphibians, butterflies, dragonflies, birds, and mammals, including bats);
  • Research and advice on nature legislation (Environmental Act, National Water Framework Directive, Water Framework Directive);
  • Ecological supervision of activities;
  • Research and advice on aquatic ecology (such as fish stock sampling, fish migration research);
  • Inventory and monitoring of macrofauna, phytoplankton, and zooplankton;
  • Swimming water quality;
  • Water system analyses;
  • DNA lab: species-specific research (qPCR) and population research (metabarcoding).
