Wildlife-friendly design

Spatial planning and Ecology

Waardenburg Ecology has a new department, "Spatial planning and Ecology." Here, researchers, data specialists, designers, and ecologists collaborate with clients on high-quality, customized solutions for complex spatial planning issues.

When changes occur in our living environment, we empower nature by processing and interpreting data, making predictions, and designing with that knowledge. We then monitor the effects of the intervention.

Team Wildlife-friendly design

The wildlife-friendly design team (team NIO), which falls within this department, will be led by Frits van Loon starting January 1, 2026. He replaces Arda van Helsdingen, who represents the Spatial Planning and Ecology department on the management team of Waardenburg Ecology. Frits has extensive experience as a lecturer, including at Delft University of Technology and Wageningen University & Research, in the architecture and landscape architecture departments. He was also one of the owners of Hosper, a landscape architecture and urban planning firm, for many years. Team NIO stands for nature-inclusive (spatial) design, creating a pleasant, attractive, biodiverse, and climate-adaptive living environment for people and nature.

Team Geo Data Intelligence

Jurryt Zwerver leads the Geo Data Intelligence team. With a strong dose of innovation and the latest technologies, the team ensures that data is used intelligently, accessibly, and effectively within all Waardenburg Ecology projects. They develop useful applications for data entry, build robust databases, and perform spatial analyses. This makes the process from fieldwork to reporting increasingly faster and more efficient, thanks to smart automation. They also regularly use drones and sonar to collect field data in innovative ways.
